Swiss voters on Sunday rejected a proposal to decriminalise cannabis by a clear majority in a nationwide referendum, Swiss news agency ATS reported.
Switzerland is the heaviest user of cannabis in Europe according to a recent study but the proposal to decriminalise the drug failed to win popular support in the majority of cantons, ATS said.

Hillman writes that “Plato, Julius Caesar, and Jesus did not view drugs as the menace as they are looked on today. Narcotics have not always been the boogeyman they are portrayed to be at present; on the contrary, they’ve been an ever-present aid to the Western world, a comfort and source of hope to societies marked by ages of physical suffering.” In fact, he says, the use of drugs — natural ones like the poppy, wormwood, cannabis and others — in Ancient Greece and Rome has actually made the Western world what it is today:
”History presents us with myriads of upright, important, brilliant, vibrant people who made positive contributions to the development of the world around us while using drugs. In reading this book, you may come to the conclusion that the West would not have survived without these so-called junkies and drug dealers; and you, as a beneficiary of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, would not be an heir to the freedom for which the Western world has been known for centuries.”
The Chemical Muse uncovers decades of misdirection and obfuscation to reveal the history of widespread drug use in Ancient Rome and Greece. In the city-states that gave birth to Western Civilization, drugs were an everyday element of a free society. Often they were not just available, but rather vitally necessary for use in medicine, religious ceremonies and war campaigns. Their proponents and users existed in all classes, from the common soldier to the emperor himself.
Citing examples in myths, medicine, and literature, D.C.A. Hillman shows how drugs have influenced and inspired the artists, philosophers, and even politicians whose ideas have formed the basis for civilization as we know it. Many of these ancient texts may seem well-known, but Hillman shows how timid, prudish translations have left scholars and readers in the dark about the reality of drug use in the Classical World.
Hillman argues that Prometheus used drugs as he gave mortals the gift of fire; the magi brought the precious drugs of frankincense and myrrh and Plato saw madness, possibly induced by drugs, as a source of creativity.
He makes a strong case for the idea that drug use alleviates pain, altars human perception and, even, transcends mortality. The nectar and ambrosia of the gods, he says, may well have been common drugs.
”In antiquity drugs provided the common man with the power to perform amazing enchantments. Psychotropic substances weren ‘t just a means of recreation; they were valuable tools that granted witches, priests and miracle workers the ability to alter reality and to thereby force nature to conform to the demands and desires of mortals.”

Mumbai: In one of the most violent terror attacks on Indian soil, Mumbai came under an unprecedented night attack as terrorists used heavy machine guns, including AK-47s, and grenades to strike at the city’s most high-profile targets — the hyper-busy CST (formerly VT) rail terminus; the landmark Taj Hotel at the Gateway and the luxury Oberoi Trident at Nariman Point; the domestic airport at Santa Cruz; the Cama and GT hospitals near CST; the Metro Adlabs multiplex and Mazgaon Dockyard — killing at least 80 and sending more than 900 to hospital, according to latest reports.
(…)
An unknown outfit, Deccan Mujahideen, has sent an email to news organizations claiming that it carried out the Mumbai attacks.
(…)
Some media reports attributed the attack to Lashkar-e-Taiba. There were also unconfirmed reports that some of the terrorists came in by sea. A boat laden with explosives was recovered later at night off the Gateway of India.

va!?
lol
va?!
